Segments

Segmentation is a key strategy in email marketing, allowing you to tailor messages to specific groups, increasing the relevance and effectiveness of your campaigns. By dividing your audience based on shared characteristics, you can deliver more personalised and engaging content.

To create a segment:

Navigate to: ‘Email Marketing’ > ‘Audience’ > ‘Segments’ in your Spectre menu.

Here, you’ll find a list of existing segments and the option to create a new one. Click ‘Add New Segment’.

Enter a segment name and an optional description (both can be edited later).

Choose the type of segment you’d like to create:

  • Dynamic Segment – Automatically updates contacts based on predefined criteria, ensuring your campaigns always reach the most relevant audience.
  • Static Segment – Remains unchanged over time, ideal for sending consistent messages to a fixed group.
  • Static Segment from CSV – Allows you to upload a CSV file to create a segment. Learn more about CSV uploads here.

Once selected, click ‘Create’ to begin building your segment.

Defining your segment

Using the ‘Select Attribute or Action’ dropdown, you can define your segment based on two key categories:

  • Attributes about a person – Filters contacts based on personal details stored in your Street CRM.
  • Something someone has or hasn't done– Filters contacts based on their interactions and behaviours within your CRM.

To refine your segment further, you can use "AND" and "OR" operators:

  • AND – All selected conditions must be met for a contact to be included.
  • OR – A contact is included if at least one of the selected conditions is met.

Finalising & managing your segment

If you make a mistake, simply click the bin icon to remove conditions. You’ll note a real-time preview of matching contacts will appear on the right side of your screen, please note we will only pull through contacts with an email address. Once satisfied, choose either:

  • ‘Save Segment’ to finalise your segment.
  • ‘Save & View Full Segment’ to see the full list of included contacts, with the option to edit or export as a CSV.
