Getting your new estate agency website online can be confusing, but setting up your domain is a simple two-step process.
You will need to update your Spectre Website Settings and then update your Domain
Name System (DNS) Records with your domain provider (e.g., GoDaddy, Namecheap,
etc.).
Part 1: Updating Your Spectre Website Settings
Part 2: Updating Your DNS Records (With your Domain Provider)
Your DNS records tell the internet where to find your new Spectre website. You will need to
add an A Record (for your main domain) and a CNAME (for the 'www' version) with two
specific IP addresses.
Note: If you are unsure where to find your DNS settings, log in to the website where you
purchased your domain and look for sections called "DNS Management", "Advanced DNS
Settings", or "Zone Editor."
Step 1: Set up the Main Domain (A Record)
1. Create a New Record: Look for an option to "Add a New Record" or "Add Record."
2. Select Record Type: Choose 'A' (or 'A Record') from the record type menu.
3. Set the Host/Name: In the Name or Host field, enter the symbol @. This tells the
domain to point to the main part of your website (e.g., youragency.com).
to enter the two Spectre IP addresses:
- 54.73.248.178
- 108.128.135.245
- Important: How you enter these two IPs depends on your domain provider:
- Option A (Most Common): Your provider may allow you to enter both IPs in the same field, separated by a comma (,) or a space ( ).
- Option B (Less Common): You may need to create a separate A Record for each IP address. If this is the case, you will create two 'A' records, both with the @ name, but each pointing to one of the IPs.
Step 2: Set up the 'www' Address (A Record)
1. Create a Second New Record: Look for an option to "Add a New Record" again.
2. Select Record Type: Choose 'A' (or 'A Record').
3. Set the Host/Name: In the Name or Host field, enter www (do not add a dot at the end). This will point the www.youragency.com address to your site.
4. Add the IP Addresses (Value): In the Value, Points to, or Address field, enter thesame two Spectre IP addresses:
- 54.73.248.178
- 108.128.135.245
- Follow the same instructions as Step 1 on how to input both IPs.
Example: Setting up DNS using GoDaddy
1. Log in to GoDaddy and navigate to your DNS Management page.
2. Click Add New Record and select A from the Type menu.
3. Set the Name as @ (for the root domain).
4. Set the Value to 54.73.248.178.
5. Click Add another value and add 108.128.135.245 as the second value.
6. Repeat the process for the www address. Click Add New Record and select A from the Type menu.
7. Set the Name as www.
8. Set the Value to 54.73.248.178.
9. Click Add another value and add 108.128.135.245 as the second value.
10. Save your changes.
It may take up to 48 hours for the DNS changes to fully update (propagate) across the
internet, but your site should usually become visible much sooner.
